Investigation on Nucleation Kinetics and Photoluminescence Characterization of a Nonlinear Optical L-arginine Maleate dihydrate Single Crystal

Nucleation parameters such as surface energy per unit area, energy per unit volume, radius of critical nucleus, critical free energy barrier, number of molecules in the critical nucleus and nucleation rate have been evaluated for L-arginine maleate dihydrate single crystals. The theoretical predictions of optimized growth conditions were confirmed by growing the crystal using solution growth technique and can grow bulk crystal with good optical quality with less poor. Unit cell parameters are confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Photoluminescence study is carried for the grown crystal and the result reveals that violet fluorescence emission occurs at 395 nm. Second harmonic generation efficiency of the crystal was determined by Kurtz and Perry powder technique.
